DAY 1: ALBUQUERQUE
Welcome to the Southwest! Your tour director will meet you at the Albuquerque airport at 1:00pm. Upon arrival, we’ll visit the fascinating Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. We will check into our hotel and enjoy a Southwestern “welcome dinner” this evening. (D)
DAY 2: BALLOON FIESTA
We’ll catch the early-morning, “Mass Ascension,” at the world-renowned Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. Next, we’ll embark on a guided city tour. After lunch, (on your own) and shopping time, we’ll relax at our hotel before the evening’s “Balloon Glow” event. (B)
DAY 3: SANTA FE
Ride the Sandia Peak Aerial Tramway to the mountain’s 10,378-foot summit, affording thrilling panoramic views of the city and the Rio Grande Valley. Next travel to Santa Fe, famous for its unique mix of Spanish and Indian cultures. We’ll tour the city, then enjoy dinner at the Blue Corn Café, a local favorite. (B,D)
DAY 4: SANTA FE - TAOS
Relax this morning in Santa Fe. This afternoon, we’ll travel the “High Road to Taos” through the ancient villages of Chimayo, Cordova, Truchas, and Las Trampas. We’ll spend the next three days in Taos. (CB,D)
DAY 5: CUMBRES & TOLTEC SCENIC RAILROAD
Board the comfortable coaches of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, for an extraordinary full-day trip on an old narrow-gauge, steam-powered train. This route features breathtaking scenery of the San Juan and Sangre de Cristo ranges, the Phantom Curve and Toltec Gorge. (B,L)
DAY 6: TAOS PUEBLO/JEEP TOUR/RED RIVER
This morning we’ll visit historic San Francisco de Asis Church, the excellent Millicent Rogers Museum, plus Taos Pueblo, one of the most picturesque of the pueblos of the Southwest. This afternoon, take a Jeep Tour over rugged trails into the heart of New Mexico’s Rockies. (B,D)
DAY 7 : JOURNEY HOME
After breakfast, we’ll return to the Albuquerque Airport. (B)
